Esro power plant – distributed electricity and thermal heating and power plant also has potential in small towns
In the fall of 2008, in cooperation with AS Esro, provider of heat to district heating consumers in Viljandi, and Baltic Energy Partners OÜ, a natural gas based electricity and thermal power heating and power plant will be completed. The heating and power plant unit, producing heat and electric power from natural gas, will be installed in the Jämejala boiler plant located on the outskirts of Viljandi, and the local heat network will be connected to the city’s central network. The planned investment is nearly MEEK 20 and the forecast yearly electricity production is approximately 12 GWh, which is a significant portion of the electricity consumption in Viljandi.
Also taken into consideration, when the decision was made to invest in the project, was the prescribed support for heating and power plant development in the valid Electricity Market Act, which is 50 cents for each kilowatt hour of electricity over a period of 12 years, beginning with entry into operation of the equipment.
